Air traffic at Antalya reaches dizzy new heights

Posted on Jul 23 2013 by spotblue

The number of tourists travelling through Antalya Airport on Turkey’s southern coast has broken records in the past month, proof that this exciting holiday and second home destination is only becoming more popular with foreigners.

Statistics from the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Managements Union (AKTOB), showed that tourist arrivals in Antalya totalled 4,277,000 for the first six months of 2013, representing a 9.9 per cent rise for the same period last year.  The largest group by nationality arriving in Antalya in the first half of the year were Russians, with 1,268,000 visitors – a 20 per cent year on year increase. In second place were the Germans with 1,110,000 visitors, an increase of 1.6 per cent. Arrivals from other European nations, including the Netherlands, Britain, Switzerland, Norway and Belgium all showed a rise of ten per cent or more.

Meanwhile, on 29th June a record number 937 flights landed and took off at Antalya Airport.  On that day a total of 71,745 tourists arrived in Antalya and 71,225 visitors departed. Airport traffic for the month of June was also at a new high, with 1.6 million visitors arriving within the month.

While Antalya is an exciting cosmopolitan city, with beaches and properties geared towards overseas buyers, the city’s airport is a gateway to the region’s other popular resorts, including Kalkan in the west and Belek, Side and Alanya in the east. The increasing frequency of flights, from international destinations, including the UK, are helping to make the region a property hot spot with foreign buyers.
