Have you heard of Yalova?

Posted on Jun 07 2017 by Gill C

We all know the major resorts and cities in Turkey the popular names such as Bodrum, Istanbul, Antalya and Fethiye to name just a few but now and again we start to hear of a new area and one is being talked about more and more frequently. Have you ever heard of Yalova? Neither had I until a couple of years ago, so it may surprise you to know that it is fast becoming one of the most talked about cities in Turkey.

In 1995 Yalova became a province in its own right before that it was a district in Istanbul, today it’s a lush ad beautiful city located in the Marmara region of Anatolia and it’s fast becoming very popular with holidaymakers. House buyers who are looking for a more affordable option than Istanbul are flocking there as are investors, there are some wonderful properties and great prices for now but I think we can expect to see prices rising fairly quickly.

Yalova is just 109km from Istanbul and the quickest route is by ferry, in fact, many people who live and work in Istanbul have bought summer houses in Yalova so they can escape the busy city lifestyle of Istanbul and enjoy peaceful and relaxed weekends and family holidays. There are so many areas of outstanding natural beauty to visit in Yalova with numerous parks to enjoy a stroll around you feel like you’re in the countryside.

The well loved Mustafa Kemal Ataturk who was the founder of the modern Turkish Republic summer house is in Yalova, it has been described as tranquil and beautiful with peaceful surroundings and is open to the public.

Another favourite to visit is the Erikli Waterfalls which it is said to be breathtaking and views can be seen from here of the Marmara Sea and if you are partial to thermal springs as am I then you will be delighted to know that you can bathe in these waters where the temperature reaches 60C. Apparently, the spring water can soothe many ailments and is renowned for their therapeutic benefits these waters offer relief to the stresses and strains of everyday life and an added extra is the local villagers sell fresh berries, fruit juices and an array of organic products to take away with you. The forests fresh water from the springs are said to re-energise and revitalise you and give you a sense of wellbeing, I can tell you it’s on my list of places to visit this year.

Shopping is also first class I have been told with plenty of stylish boutiques and with lots of super little cafes, bars and restaurants after we are all shopped out its lovely just to sit with a nice coffee or chilled glass of wine and watch the world go by. Yalova sounds like you can have the best of both worlds in one city, tranquil parks where you can get away from it all and the buzz of a vibrant city life.
