New marina makes Bodrum’s Yalikavak the place to be seen!

Posted on Jul 12 2013 by spotblue

The new marina in the resort of Yalikavak on the Bodrum Peninsula is now open for business and ready to receive the mega-yachts of the world’s super-rich, after being upgraded to receive vessels up to 100 metres long.

Called the Palmarina Port, the upgrade cost an estimated $120 million and means there are now moorings for a total of 710 boats, including 43 for vessels that are 40-75 metres long. Facilities in the marina now include international boutiques, world-class restaurants and bars, and even a small children’s water park with slides. It is free for the public to enter seven days a week.

The official opening of the marina at the end of June was a grand affair and was attended by British pop-star Craig David, as well as Turkish celebrities including Ajda Pekan, Russian singer Nikolay Baskov, Avatar actress Zoe Saldana, and other famous entrepreneurs and faces from the world of sport.

Yalikavak is known as ‘The Saint Tropez of Turkey’ and has become one of the highlights of the Bodrum Peninsula’s string of chic, unspoilt harbour resorts. It is surrounded by tangerine and lemon orchards, and as well as the new marina still has a functioning fishing harbour.

It hosts numerous world-class sailing events throughout the year, and life in general revolves around the beach and water sports. The resort’s charm, scenery and excellent facilities mean it has a strong holiday rental market, which adds to the appeal of owning a second home in Yalikvak – which will only be enhance by the new Palmarina.
