Take five: unspoilt beaches in Turkey you’d want a home near to

Posted on Sep 03 2013 by spotblue

Turkey is home to some of the prettiest beaches in the Mediterranean, you just have to know where to find them. So here’s a look at five of the best, each accessible from a resort with a selection of affordable second homes.

Stunning Patara is around 10 miles west of the small but charming resort of Kalkan. It is often ranked No.1 beach in Turkey thanks to its 20 kilometres of white sand, uncrowdedness and unspoilt backdrop – nearby archaeological ruins mean development is highly restricted here. Bizarrely, Patara is said to be the birthplace of Santa Claus.

Another great place to feel sand between your toes is Iztuzu, a three mile long sandy beach a 30 minute boat trip downstream from the resort of Dalyan. Again, the beach’s popularity with loggerhead turtles has kept it preserved and unspoilt.
Also a favourite with turtles is Cirali beach, a hour’s drive west of Antalya. That Cirali is pebbly does not detract from its fantastic scenery, which includes a mountainous backdrop and pine forests. The ancient Olympos ruins are a 15-minute walk away, for when you need a break from your sunbed.

Ölüdeniz, the Blue Lagoon, near the colourful resort of Fethiye is spoilt for good beaches, many of which get too busy for some in high season. So why not head a few miles east to Kabak, where a 30-minute stroll takes you to a private gem of a beach, where a wooded valley meets the sea.

Similarly, the Bodrum Peninsula is home to a string of hidden bays and pretty fishing villages, and one of the lesser known is Ortakent. Located mid-way along the peninsula, 5-10 minutes from the lively resort of Bodrum, Ortakent is a small, laid-back, traditional family friendly resort with a lovely beach.
