Tourism in Turkey gets boost from surge in leading hotel brands

Posted on Jun 07 2013 by spotblue

Turkey continues to carve a name for itself as world-class tourist destination with global hotel groups queuing up to set up shop there – a trend expected to grow following the countries upgraded investment status and its increasing reputation as a hub for corporate and sporting events.

At the Turkey & Neighbours Hotel Investment Conference (CATHIC) conference in Istanbul this week, a selection of heavyweight hotel chains announced plans for new facilities in Turkey. More specifically, Wyndham plans to launch its Super 8 brand in the country with the opening of 20 new hotels, the Accor Group from France intends to add 50 new facilities to its existing 10 Novotel and Ibis hotels there, while Hilton Worldwide has plans to add three new hotels to the existing 24 it has throughout Turkey.

Outside of Istanbul, Bodrum’s reputation as a chic, up-market resort has grown with the arrival of internationally recognised hotel brands, such as Kempinski and Ramada, as well as independent boutique hotels, bringing positive knock-on effects for the property market there. Its hosting of sailing events also helps attract global wealthy tourists and all the trimmings that come with them.

Three new hotels in Turkey won their category at the 2013 CATHIC awards. Winner of Best New Hotel Across the Region is the Marti Hemithea, a 32-room hotel in Hisonaru Bay in the Marmaris region, which was completed in 2012. The Marti Hemithea was praised for its combination of quality spaces and very high standards of service along with the utter serenity of its location and setting. Winner of Best New Hotel Turkey is The Grand Tarabya in Istanbul. Completed on 1st February 2013, this 278-room hotel was described as a contemporary interpretation of a traditional concept and a perfect example of a city resort where guests can relax away from the clamour of the city, but within easy reach of all of Istanbul’s business and social life. And Winner of Best New City Centre Hotel Across the Region is the Marti Istanbul Hotel, a 270-room hotel completed in 2012 and located in the heart of Istanbul, next to Taksim Square.
